Horizontal Calibration
How to replace vertical vial holder.
How to replace horizontal vial holder.
VERTICAL CALIBRATION
1) Place level against vertical wall or door jam
2) Surface must be straight and close to being plumb
3) Note position of bubble
4) Turn level end for end holding in exact same position
5) Note bubble position
6) If bubble reads in different position, adjust to bring bubble
back half the difference.
7) Repeat step number 4
8) Adjust screw (if necessary) until bubble position is exactly
the same when level
is held in both directions on the same surface
HOW TO REPLACE VERTICAL VIAL HOLDER.
1) Remove screw.
2) Remove round hollow plug.
3) Slide vial towards end of level.
4) Place blade of screw driver behind vial and tap with light
hammer to force vial and end cap out of level.
5) Place spring in spring holder on vial retainer and slide
into level.
6) Line up plug opening with small round hole in level, and
insert hollow plug, pressing into place.
7) Insert screw and tighten until vial centers in vial opening,
then follow
instructions on how to calibrate vertical vial.
HORIZONTAL CALIBRATION
1) Calibrate level by placing on a flat surface that is reasonably
level, then note the position of the bubble in the vial.
2) Reverse the level end for end using the same working edge
and note bubble position, if different, adjust screws until
bubble reads exactly the same in both directions, NOTE; split
the difference of the bubble movement and test; tightening either
screw makes the bubble move away from that screw.
3) Repeat until bubble reads exactly the same in both directions.
HOW TO REPLACE HORIZONTAL
VIAL HOLDER
1) Remove Vial, 2 screws, 2 springs, 1 luminous strip
2) Squeeze vial holder together, to allow complete holder to
slide inside level.
3) Remove the two 1" long springs.
4) Pull old vial holder up through opening one end first. NOTE:
If this is a 24 " level with hand holes it is necessary
to remove one handle in order to slide vial holder far enough
past center of opening to be able to pull it out and insert
new vial holder.
5) Insert new vial holder that has been assembled and squeezed
together by putting one end down through center opening of level,
and then pushing completely into level, may require light tap
to get into opening.
6) Slide to one side of opening and set 1" long spring
on spring locator.
7) Gently slide to other side of opening and set the 2nd 1"
long spring on spring locator.
8) Gently slide holder back to center and with needle nose
pliers grab the inside section of the vial holder pulling it
up and setting the outer lip on the edge of the level in the
vial opening.
9) Press your finger against holder so as to prevent it from
slipping off the edge of side wall in vial opening in level.
10) With small blade of flat screw driver insert between the
two parts of the vial holder and pry up and over to set the
other lip on the other edge of the level in the vial opening.
11) Holding in place with finger insert blade of screw driver
in opening between locking clips and screw hole right of center,
and pry apart, you should hear a click when in place, repeat
same procedure on left side of holder.
12) Vial holder should now be in place, resting on both lips
of holder, and on the side walls of the level, held firmly in
place by the pressure of the two springs pushing against the
top of the level.
13) Insert luminous strip.
14) Insert two 7/8" long springs into spring locators on
vial, then drop into position in vial holder.
15) Insert two 1 1/16" long #6 screws through screw holes
in vial and tighten until top of vial is just below the surface
of the level.
NOTE: The surface does not have to be level to accomplish this
procedure, only reasonably level. Re-insert new handle if you
are repairing a 24" level with handles.
